Lyric Avenue, Los Angeles, CA

I was asked to design a new home on a small, steeply sloping lot in the hills of Silverlake. The biggest challenge in the design was the height of the building and trying to construct three storeys and build within the city required grade plane line. The geometric shape of the building allowed me to solve this challenge without having to sacrifice any of the client's wishes.
It was important for the client that the house felt connected to the outdoors at every level. The main entrance to the house at mid-level is accessed from a large patio that can be used for dining / entertaining and the large window in the living room gives sweeping views of the Silverlake hills. The master suite on the top floor has its own balcony with those same views and the lower-level master suite has access to the private fenced in garden.
The open floor plan, vaulted ceilings and clerestory windows combined with the choice of materials and large picture windows gives the house the light filled loft-like feel that the clients wanted.
